It's the start of a new day here at the Lord Of The Rings club and we welcome you to our humble middle earth abode. this club is a place where LOTR fans can come and celebrate their passion through art and conversation. feel free to have a look around our little slice of middle earth in dA.

:pointr: for current news about the club, please visit here!

:pointr: for an interesting discussion with friends, visit the club forum!

:pointr: find our current poll listed here!

please feel free to offer suggestions, comments or feedback in regards to improving our club.

Joining!
joining this club is simple. just add us to your +devwatch list, and send us a note with "join club" in the subject line [the subject "Join Club" IS IMPORTANT, if it is someting else, it might be overlooked as something less important.] and we'll add you to the friends list. notes may take a few days to be answered but we'll do our best to get to them as soon as possible. once you've been added as a member we ask that you consider adding us to your 'friends/clubs' journal, list or signature if you have one.

please note: just adding us to your watch list isn't the same as joining, you must send us a note!.

Submissions
:pointr: only members can submit work to the club in a note with the link only with the subject of the note as "Submission" [the subject is important, so the note is not overlooked.]. not a member? then join!

:pointr: deviation content or theme must be clearly related to Lord Of The Rings in some manner.

:pointr: deviation submissions can take on the form of most art or writing however at this time the club does not accept avatars, emotes, icons or desktop screenshots as deviations. deviations which may contain mature content will be reviewed at the discretion of the admin staff. please don't be offended if your work is respectfully declined.

:pointr: deviations are submitted to the club by deviantART members and are therefore displayed in the gallery with permission. images displayed in this club may not be copied or reproduced without the expressed permission of the original artist of the work. all members of this club are to abide by the deviantART submission guidelines

:pointr: images used from newline cinema inc. may not be displayed (due to copyright reasons), unless the work is only used in reference to create original fanart. display of work will be at the discretion of the admin. please don't be offended if your work is respectfully declined.

:pointr: in order to maintain the sanity of the admin's we ask that members submit no more than 2 pieces of work to the club at any one time. just send us a note with "submission" in the subject line and a link to the deviation in your gallery, and we'll consider adding it.

:pointr: it is dA policy that clubs not +fav the work of it's members. as such, if you're a member (new or old) and your work has been +fav'd by this club we ask that you let us know so we can submit it as a deviation instead. for more information about this, please see dA FAQ #216: Are there any rules for accounts being used as clubs or 'group' accounts?

LORD OF THE RINGS - CLUB MEMBERS

JOIN THE CLUB
1.add the club to your watch list
2. send a note to us with Join Club in the title
- - It is very important to us that you only put "join club" in the subject of the note, because everything in the notes page of this club is catorgarised. if you fail to put it into the subject it will be deleted, simply because there are lots that come through... so i hope you co-operate, and help me to run this club smoother, thank you.
3. be patient for a reply! :) thanks.

lord of the rings trivia..

Journal Entry: Fri May 20, 2005, 6:15 AM

welcome to the Lord Of The Rings trivia journal. feel free to share any little pieces of information, news, trivia or details you might happen to know about the Lord Of The Rings..

general trivia
:pointr: Author J.R.R. Tolkien wanted his 3rd book to be titled "the War of the Ring." He felt that "The Return of the King" gave away the ending.

:pointr: In later years (according to the book), after he is about 100 years old, Sam also sails into the West to be with Frodo. There is a reference to this in the line from Annie Lennox's song 'Into the West': 'Don't say, we have come now to the end, white shores are calling - you and I will meet again.' Sam is allowed to sail because he also bore the burden of the One Ring to the Tower at Cirith Ungol, on their way to Mt. Doom.

:pointr: 2005 is the fiftieth anniversary of the complete publication of The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien. The first two volumes (The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers) were published in 1954, while the third, The Return of the King, was published on October 20th 1955.

:pointr: There is no known text in which Tolkien makes a final, unambiguous statement about the shape of Elvish ears.

:pointr: The Hobbits are a branch of the specifically human race (not Elves or Dwarves) -- hence the two kinds can dwell together (as at Bree), and are called just the Big Folk and Little Folk.

movie trivia
:pointr: Viggo Mortensen lost a tooth while filming a fight sequence. He went to the dentist on his lunch break, had it patched up, and returned to the set that afternoon.

:pointr: 1,460 eggs were served to the cast and crew for breakfast for every day of shooting.

:pointr: More than 1,600 pairs of latex ears and feet were used during the shoot, each "cooked" in a special oven running 24 hours a day, seven days a week. There was no way of removing the feet at the end of the day without damaging them and so each pair could only be used once. The used feet were shredded to prevent a black market in stolen hobbit feet but apparently Dominic Monaghan (Merry) kept a pair.

:pointr: Dominic Monaghan (Merry), wore a fat suit made of foam. He drank three liters of water a day so he would not dehydrate.

:pointr: Sean Astin gained 30 pounds for his role as Samwise.

:pointr: Orlando Bloom (Legolas) did most of his own stunts and broke a rib in the process.

:pointr: John Rhys-Davies (Gimli) developed an allergic reaction to his makeup.

:pointr: Liv Tyler had trouble with her lines in Elvish and was unable to film a whole scene in one go, instead having to learn the dialogue one line at a time.

:pointr: The map Gandalf picks up in Bilbo's study is a reproduction of the map Tolkien drew for the book "The Hobbit", the prequel to the Fellowship of the Ring.

:pointr: The three trolls which were turned to stone in "The Hobbit" are in the background during the scene where Frodo, Sam, Merry, Pippin, and Strider/Aragorn are resting after fleeing from Weathertop/Amon Sul.

:pointr: Wellington, the capital of New Zealand, changed its name to Middle Earth for the film's opening.

:pointr: The original plan was to film "The Hobbit" starring Warwick Davis. But when Miramax balked at the $75 million dollar price tag Peter Jackson took it to New Line which gave him nearly $300 million to make the trilogy

:pointr: Cate Blanchett joked that she took the role of Galadriel because, "I've always wanted pointy ears".

:pointr: Director Cameo: [Peter Jackson]
fellowship of the ring - As the belching peasant, outside the Prancing Pony Inn in Bree.
two towers - A soldier at the battle of helm's deep
return of the king - The corsair who was shot with legolas' arrow

:pointr: Ian McKellen based Gandalf's accent on that of Tolkien himself.
